At the start of the month, all over Bookstagram (a lovely corner of Instagram that’s dedicated solely to books), book bloggers are posting pictures of their bookstacks to show followers their TBR pile.
What is a TBR pile? Good question. It’s basically a stack of books that you want to read within the next month. You can pull these from your own bookshelves, from the library, or from your e-book catalogue.

Bloggers tend to set their TBR this monthly. Some are more ambitious than others. I myself set a vague guide at the start of the month, and then I inevitably veer off path half way through. Why? Because I’m what’s known as a mood reader.
I amble in book shops, spend hours in libraries, and peruse charity shops. I’m looking for the perfect book to suit what exactly I feel like reading. I read covers, search through reviews, and I’m driven almost entirely by emotion. When a book speaks to me I know I have to have it, and I simply have to start reading right away.

So how bad is it? In December I set myself an ambitious TBR of 9 books (what was I thinking?!). I managed to read 3. Yes, that’s right… the reality of that has dawned on me too. 3. To be fair, two fell in to the DNF pile, and another 2 had to go back to the library…. buut there’s still that one that I returned to the shelf for no real reason. Except… you got it… I wasn’t really in the mood to read it.
So now it’s your turn…
What’s your reading style? Does the mood have to be right, or can you stick to a scheduled TBR? Let’s chat in the comments.
